9-Hole Ladies’ Club
The 9 Hole Ladies’ Club has been a going concern since 1956 when a dedicated group of ladies led by Eleanor McGowan, the wife of the president of the Alberni Golf Club at the time decided it was time that the 9-hole players became officially recognized. They became a legitimate club seriously ready to prove their right to official status. Todays 9-Hole Ladies’ Club having little left to prove about their legitimacy are a tad less serious. While their Tuesday morning games are flighted and competitive, the club strives first and foremost for its members to be relaxed and having fun out on the course. Various formats are explored over the course of the season and players can play from either the red or yellow tee boxes. With the 9-Hole Ladies there is a guarantee of coffee and freshly baked muffins and great camaraderie at the 10th hole.
Once a month for those who are interested, the 9-Hole Ladies have an opportunity to play against member of other clubs on the Central Island. These events are always well attended as they provide an opportunity to play other courses at a reasonable price. It is also a great opportunity to meet other golfers from around the central island. The 9-Hole Ladies’ Club presently has a membership of about 30 ladies. New members are always welcome. Non members are welcome to participate but will need to pay appropriate green fees.
The 2018 President is Lauralee Edgell and the Secretary Treasurer is Kathy Toms
On Tuesdays, we hold individual or team competitions with small prizes given over lunch. Guests may pay a small fee to join in these events along with our members.
We sometimes play more serious competitions and “qualifying” events, but as these happen alongside our regular day’s play, guests are welcome on these days as well. Only women who are club members are eligible to qualify for Zone 6 tourneys, however.
To help guests or new members feel more comfortable playing with our group, we have recently set up a “buddy system” for newcomers. We would be happy to arrange for a new player to play with a “veteran” who will act as a special friend and mentor for the first few weeks and familiarize the newcomer with our various competitions, routines, and so on.
An Alberni Golf Club member who is ready to commit to the “18-holers” can join us for the small fee of $25 per season.
Anyone is welcome to play with this group for $3/time plus green fees or $25/year plus green fees. You do NOT have to a Alberni Golf Club member. Anyone wishing to play with our group is asked to get her name into the weekly draw by emailing Gayle Rhodes email@example.com at least a couple of days in advance of Tuesday play.
For more information, please email either of the above. Check the webpage for dates and time of play, under Events/Calendar.
Tuesday Business Ladies
Most Tuesdays the tees are blocked for the ladies from 3:30 pm. to 6:00 pm. Although this group is called the Tuesday Business Ladies, you don’t have to be a working woman to come and play. It is open to all lady golfers with all abilities. You can come as a single, a twosome a threesome or a foursome.
Just sign up in the proshop and pay your green fee, if applicable, and head down to the tee.
We do regular golf most weeks and have a scramble (with dinner and prizes) once a month. Remember to fill out and turn in your score cards each time you play. These scores go towards the year-end prizes.
For added fun, each Tuesday of golf and for every scramble, there are closest-to-the-pins on the par 3s. The KP winners are entered into a shot out at the windup scramble in September. Every time you come out to golf with the business ladies, your name goes in the draw for grand prizes at the yearend scramble in September.
Check the events calendar for dates and times. For more information contact Kathy Macdonald in the ProShop.
